“Where are the people?” resumed the little prince at last. “It’s a little lonely in the desert…”- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
Where are the rivers? Where are the lakes? Where have all the forests gone? The blue is fading from Kauai and the Maldives, the Caribbean, Panama Canal. The deep, luscious green of the Amazon forest. The trails of the Ganges River Delta.
1.9 billion hectares of land, 1.5 billion people. They disappear quietly, like the tide from the Black Sea, Poopó lake, Baikal. Thin, fine cracks appear like wrinkles, or threads of brown yarn in the earth where grass once grew, snow fell, water ran. Where has the pink coral gone?
Venice, Beijing, Bangkok, and Alaska. Bright colors turned white by the sun. Do you remember colours? Do you remember this place? It was not always a desert. There once blew a soft breeze.
It ruffles the long skirts delicately. They flow and twirl and cascade down, their colours like waterfalls. Gradients of greens, blues, delicate pastels. Earth tones.
Earth, a Rouba G. Collection of day and evening gowns. A tribute to water, land, and air. A call to save a fading planet.
